  • the trouble with semicolons

Yeesh, it's been forever since I've written anything on here! Things got a little busy there for a while, which took me by surprise, since it's ... you know ... summer, and everything. I believe that the last time I wrote, I had been babysitting just Lily for a few days. The addition of her older sister, Jasmine, somehow made the job about four times more difficult, and then these past few weeks, I've had them every weekday, rather than just three days a week. I'm actually back on my three-day-a-week schedule this week, so I'm enjoying the free time. :)

Not that I don't enjoy babysitting them. They're sweet girls, and are generally pretty well-behaved, and very imaginitive. I suppose the imaginitive part makes sense, since their father is an artist/pianist/drummer/leader of my church's Creative Community group .../social worker (he's been doing a drum circle with his patients for group therapy, and I enjoy hearing about it in the morning before he leaves).

Also, I have a job lined up for the fall (yay!). I will be transcribing lectures for students who are deaf/hard of hearing. For this, I have to complete a computer training course which teaches me various abbreviations, and the practice of meaning-for-meaning transcribing. I started that a few weeks ago. There are 29 lessons, and I've just finished lesson 10.

The problem is that I'm developing all of these abbreviated typing habits, and I end up slipping into them sometimes when I'm typing outside of the software.  k loks smjg like js  (Translated: "It looks something like this.") Actually, the thing that trips me up more than anything else is that in the software, you can use the semicolon key to highlight the word you just typed if you messed it up and need to re-write it. I find myself hitting the semicolon rather than the backspace key all the time, which for some reason, just shows up as a semicolon when I'm not in the TypeWell software.

So that's sort of the update on what's happening in my world. I haven't been keeping up with anyone else's blogs for ages, so maybe I should get on that, eh?
