Dinosaurs and Hide and Seek
I started babysitting for a friend of mine from church yesterday. This week, it's just the middle daughter, Lily, since she got out of school early, but next week, I'll be starting with her older sister, Jasmine. Caleb, the youngest, will be in daycare, so I'll just have the girls.
I come into the house just as everyone is leaving. It's a little crazy. Apparently, the night before, they went to a party where there was face-painting. When I rang the doorbell, Caleb answered the door, and I saw that he had something painted on his forehead, and asked him what it was. "It'h a DINO-THAW!!" he gleefully informed me.
He likes dinosaurs.
Lily, my charge for the week, loves princesses, the color pink, and being read several stories on end (some very special stories merit repeat readings). She had a butterfly painted on her forehead today. She's generally very well behaved, but sometimes she tries to push the boundaries. After lunch, there's about two hours before her mother comes home. I'm supposed to limit her time in front of a screen (television or computer) to the latter of the two hours. Of course, right after lunch ...
Lily: Can I watch a movie?
Me: Not for another hour.
Lily: Can I watch a movie ... pleeeeeease?
Me: Thanks for saying please, but the answer is still no.She went to her room and hid under her cover after that. After I was done cleaning a nearby bathroom (part of the job description is a "household chore du jour", and today was the bathrooms), I heard a little tinkly sound coming from under Lily's cover. I began a search for her, wondering aloud where Lily could have gone, and why I couldn't see her, and where that sound was coming from (when I knew perfectly well it was coming from a pink plastic "magic wand" I'd seen her with earlier). After a few minutes of this, she revealed herself, thinking herself to be so clever, because I couldn't find her for so long. A game of hide and seek ensued. Pretty soon the hour was up, and I let her watch the Tinkerbell movie.
